Protect Your Skin Against Autumn Weather

Transition your skincare with the changing season

With the arrival of autumn, it's time to talk skincare. Autumn brings cooler weather and a drop in humidity, which results in dry, stale air – and even drier skin. In general, it's always good to approach skincare seasonally, just like you do your wardrobe. As the seasons change, so should your skincare. It’s minor tweaks that can make a major difference.

It's important that, as the weather gets colder, we properly look after our skin through a natural, moisture-promoting vegan skincare regime that will leave you looking radiant throughout the season. Central to this should be your aromatherapy carrier oils, as they have a softening and protecting effect that’s perfect for the colder months.

The importance of carrier oils for autumn skin

Certain carrier oils contain ingredients similar to sebum – the skin’s natural moisturising agent – which contains oleic acid. This is one of the most important fatty acids and is commonly found in triglycerides. By using products that contain oleic acid, the skin can benefit greatly from their moisturising properties.

Oils that also support the natural pH of the acid mantle are important too. This layer contains friendly micro-bacteria that protect the skin and maintain moisture levels. Fortunately, at Oleo Bodycare, we use several carrier oils in our vegan skincare range that help to both protect and nourish your skin.

Which oils should you use?

Argan oil – often referred to as liquid gold, this amazing carrier oil is filled with flavonoids, polyphenols, carotenoids, ferulic acid, vitamin E, antioxidants, and – of course – oleic acid. This powerful combination protects the skin against autumn and winter weather, while improving elasticity and tightening the skin. Oleo’s wonderfully nourishing Essential Skin Serum contains a generous amount of argan oil, so massage it into your skin every morning and/or night for a beautifully radiant complexion.

Avocado oil – this oil penetrates the deeper layers of the skin and is great for protecting against windburn. It contains a high number of proteins and unsaturated fats, as well as omega-3 fatty acids, sterolin, and antioxidants. At Oleo, we use unrefined avocado oil – not the refined type – since these vitally important skin-loving components are removed during processing. You’ll find avocado oil in our exceptional Dry Skin Oil, which is also infused with rose and neroli essential oils. This synergy of oils creates a superb facial treatment – ideal for your autumn vegan skincare.

Jojoba oil – another oil that contains precious oleic acid. Jojoba is a non-greasy emollient that protects skin against the cold and deeply moisturises and conditions. At Oleo, we add this oil to a variety of our products to supercharge them with essential fatty acids that help prevent dehydration and promote elasticity. You’ll find this valuable oil in the following Oleo products:

Moringa oil – this amazing oil is rich in oleic and palmitic acids, plus vitamins A and C, making it excellent for moisturising and nourishing the skin throughout the autumn and winter. Moringa oil is a very stable carrier oil which is highly nutritious to the skin and similar in composition to olive oil – but much lighter. It’s also a powerful natural antioxidant with excellent skin-smoothing properties. You can find moringa oil in Oleo’s Rejuvenating Rosewood Face Cream. Use this regularly to help keep your skin in perfect condition.

When and how to apply your products

The products containing these wonderfully beneficial oils can be applied to the skin at any time – morning and/or evening – to suit your skincare regime. To obtain the maximum results, they need to be used regularly, since it can take around a month for a new layer of skin to grow. The best approach is ‘little and often’ when it comes to natural vegan skincare.

Try massaging these products onto the face and neck morning and night during the windy autumn weather, and you should soon see and feel the benefits.
