Patchouli Essential Oil

Back to Essential Oils

Patchouli (pogostemon cablin) is used for tiredness, tension, burns, acne, dandruff, eczema and oily skin or scalp.

Why use this essential oil?

The oil is extracted from the dried leaves and shoots of the bushy herb.

Since ancient times, patchouli has been used in the East to scent linen and clothes.  It is still used extensively in modern perfumery and was worn alone as the symbol of peace and love by hippies during the 1960s.

The essential oil has a woody, earthy, sweet smell that is pungent and persistent.  It stimulates when used in small amounts and sedates when used more generously.  It is anti-inflammatory and antiseptic.

In aromatherapy, it is used for tiredness, tension, burns, acne, dandruff, eczema and oily skin or scalp.  It is a heady, sensual oil.
